A Big Day for Indie Fans (August 7th, 2025)

The Indie World Showcase dropped today, August 7th, 2025, and it was packed with surprises, cozy vibes, and a ton of creative, out-of-nowhere games. What made it even better? A bunch of the titles I’ve been hoping for actually showed up!

There were some total curveballs too, and a few games I didn’t know I needed until I saw them in action. So, instead of covering everything from the showcase, I want to keep this post personal. These are the games I’m excited for, what stood out, what I pre-ordered, and what’s now high on my must-play list. Let’s dive in!

1.  Neverway

This twisted horror‑RPG and life‑sim hybrid from Coldblood Inc. caught my eye with its haunting pixel art and surreal premise: Fiona quits her job, moves to an island, and becomes the immortal herald of a dead god.

One of the most striking reveals from the Indie World Showcase wasn’t just what Neverway is, but who is crafting it.

  • The game is co‑directed by Pedro Medeiros, the renowned pixel artist behind Celeste and TowerFall, two indie masterpieces celebrated for their expressive, emotive pixel art. Celeste is one of my favourite games and I am lucky enought to have the collectors edition on the Switch.

  • Industry outlets are buzzing: GamesRadar+ calls him “talented indie veteran Pedro Medeiros” and highlights his role in giving Neverway its “stunning pixel‑style” look.
  • The departure of Pedro from Extremely OK Games, following a dispute over Celeste’s IP, makes his involvement in Neverway all the more poignant. Nowadays, he’s charting new creative ground with this twisted life‑sim RPG.

Final Earthblade Update

Why this matters: Pedro’s return to the helm means Neverway is not just another indie game, it’s a deeply personal canvas, where familiar artistry meets fresh, nightmarish storytelling. It’s not just nostalgia; it’s evolution.

2. UFO 50

The surprise announcement today, and the fact that I received an email from Fangamer shortly after the Indoe Showcase (one of my go‑to plush and merch source), instantly nudged me to pre‑order theNintendo Switch™ Deluxe Edition. The Fangamer edition includes a 116‑page “UFO Companion Guide” and cool extras like prints and stickers. I am an indie game collector and since this game has been on my Wishlist for the Switch for a while, now I bit the bullet. I cannot wait to play this one.

3. Herdling

This mystical alpine adventure from the makers of FAR looks gorgeous, and emotional. I usually don't play many games of this style, but this one caught my attention for sure! I can’t wait to lead my herd through serene mountains.

4.  Content Warning (Cool-looking co‑op game)

Landfall’s co‑op horror gem lets you film spooky creatures underground to go viral on SpöökTube, a hilarious and chilling twist on found‑footage survival. I am a huge fan of coop games, and horror is also one of my favourite genres, so I cannot way to convince my friend to play this with me next year!

5. BALL x PIT

This unique combo of brick‑breaking, base‑building, and roguelite action has my curiosity piqued, it will definitely test my multitasking skills. Devolver looks like it has another gem for us!

6. Ultimate Sheep Raccoon

A wacky, adorable party racer where you build ramps and traps for friend‑fueled chaos, basically Ultimate Chicken Horse, but with sheep and raccoons? I’m in haha.

7. Caves of Qud

I never heard of this game untill they announced it very briefly for the Switch during the Indie World Showcase today. From what I can see from the trailer, I still have no idea what is going on, but it looks so weird and up my alley! I will definetly be playing this when it release at the end of the year.

8 . Mina the Hollower

Last, but certanly not least, I am super hyped for Mina the Hollower. As someone who enjoyed Shovel Knight, and a proud early backer from the Mina the Hollower Kickstarter, this one hits especially close to home. Back in 2022, I eagerly pledged because it looked like so much fun, and the studio’s gothic, pixel-art direction blew me away!

Now, we finally have a firm release date: October 31, 2025, perfectly spooky timing for this mouse-on-a-mission action-adventure.

What About You? Let’s Talk Indie Games

That wraps up my personal highlights from today’s Indie World Showcase. I’m still buzzing from the surprise drops, especially seeing UFO 50 get a physical Switch edition (shoutout to Fangamer for making my wallet cry again haha).

This post was all about the games I’m excited for, but I want to hear from you too. What caught your eye? Was there a trailer that made you pause and rewind? A weird little gem you can’t stop thinking about? A game you’re pre-ordering the second it drops?
